Though she is not like the great gods who boast about their immortality and power, I liked her for being imperfect. However, I’m sure that the Greeks would have had their own cuss words and not used the current ones.Ĭirce took me with her on a journey to the ancient Greek world through her story. The language was modern, yet the metaphors felt very relevant to the story, which made the book sound authentic as a Greek myth would be. Many might call it purple prose, but for me, it was perfect. I gobbled-up each page and savoured each line. It felt good to get carried away into this Greek world built by Circe. I realized it while reading this book, and it was nice to read a book for fun. I have been reviewing them nonstop, which has made reading a tedious activity. It was a long time since I read a book just for fun. I liked that this book was Circe’s story instead of those conceited Greek gods and mortals.Īfter a long time, I felt good while reading a book. This change in POV brought focus more to the voice of the character and not let it fade into the background as it did in the myths.

I haven’t read Odyssey fully, but from what I remember, it was narrated from a third-person POV. When the synopsis told that it was a story about Circe, I never expected it to be from her POV. I knew that it was highly praised by everyone in the book community, but I hadn’t kept my hopes high. This book is one of the best books so far this year. To protect what she holds dear, Circe must decide whether she belongs with the deities she is born from, or the mortals she has come to love. There is danger for a solitary woman in this world, and Circe’s independence draws the wrath of men and gods alike. And wily Odysseus, on his epic voyage home. But she will not always be alone many are destined to pass through Circe’s place of exile, entwining their fates with hers. There she learns to harness her occult craft, drawing strength from nature.
